The Ultimate Top 5 Dive Sites in Hurghada & Beyond
Think you have seen it all? The Hurghada diving area extends far beyond the city center. From the famous wrecks in the north (near El Gouna) to the pristine reefs in the south (Sahl Hasheesh), here are the top 5 sites for experienced divers.
1. Abu Nuhas (The Wreck Graveyard)
Located north towards El Gouna, this reef is famous for claiming ships. It holds four massive shipwrecks, including the Giannis D and the Carnatic (sunk in 1869). It’s a bucket-list trip for any wreck lover.
2. Carless Reef (Central Hurghada)
An isolated coral plateau rising from the deep in the middle of the sea. Known for its massive moray eels and the chance to spot reef sharks in the blue. Since there is no lagoon, we only dive here when the weather is calm.
3. Abu Hashish (Sahl Hasheesh)
Located in the south, this island was once a smuggling point for hashish (hence the name!). Today, it offers a spectacular drift dive along a steep wall featuring caves and huge table corals.
4. El Mina Wreck (Harbor)
For history lovers, this Egyptian minesweeper lies at 30 meters depth just outside Hurghada’s harbor. It was sunk in 1970 and is now home to schools of glassfish and lionfish.
5. Umm Gamar (North)
A majestic island offering steep walls and caves. It’s perfect for drift diving and spotting large pelagic fish like tunas and jackfish passing by in the deep blue.
